OpenAI's 29 September DevDay had more than 20 announcements. Four help explain the direction: agents that keep working, a lower-cost work model, shared knowledge, and a premium speed tier. They have different access rules. Buying one plan does not mean every announced feature is included everywhere. Official recap.

For me, the useful question is simple: which part of my work does this improve, and what does my current account actually include?

1. Dots take on ongoing responsibilities

Dots are powered by GPT-6 Astra, have their own cloud computer and can connect through plugins to more than 4,000 apps. They can keep working between conversations. Initial eligibility covers Pro and Business Premium in supported markets, plus an admin-enabled Enterprise beta that includes Edu and Healthcare. Introducing dots.

Your first dot is included on an eligible plan. Deeper work has an allowance. Tasks it starts or manages in Work and Codex use those products' limits as usual. This is not unlimited execution, and Pro 500 is not the required entry ticket for every dot. Dots access and usage.

A good first responsibility would be a sourced weekly update from a small set of connected project records. Give it a finish line and define what needs your approval.

2. GPT-6.1 Sol changes the work-model tradeoff

OpenAI reports near-Astra results on several coding, computer-use and professional-work evaluations. Standard API pricing is $2 per million input tokens, $0.10 for cached input and $10 for output. Standard input and output prices are one-fifth of Astra's. That is an API comparison, not a fivefold discount on a ChatGPT subscription. Sol announcement.

Sol is available in Work and Codex across the listed paid plans, including Plus, and through the API. The announcement says it is not yet available in Chat. Check the actual picker in the product you use. Availability, model documentation.

Compare it on the same task you already run. Count the corrections and retries, as well as the token bill.

3. Space gives shared work a home

ChatGPT Space brings teammates, ChatGPT and dots around shared knowledge. Pages provide documents people and agents can work on together. The recap lists Pro, Business and Enterprise access, with mobile creation and editing still coming. Space and Pages.

I would use shared records for decisions, task briefs and accepted outputs. Do not assume that storing a document makes every agent remember every line. Name the relevant page in the task and keep the accepted version clear.

4. Pro 500 is a subscription with Astra Ultrafast

Pro 500 costs $500 per month and includes access to Astra Ultrafast in Work and Codex. Within Pro, Ultrafast is limited to Pro 500; buying credits on Pro 100 or Pro 200 does not unlock it. Sol Ultrafast is announced as coming soon. Release notes, DevDay recap.

Faster generation is useful when it shortens a task you repeatedly wait on. It does not remove the need to inspect a result.

Keep these four distinctions visible

Update What it changes Check before using
Dots Ongoing agent responsibilities Eligible plan, market, permissions and allowance
Sol Model capability and API cost Product picker, task quality and actual usage
Space Shared knowledge and documents Plan access and the relevant accepted page
Pro 500 Included usage and premium speed Subscription cost and whether speed helps your work

A copyable operating brief

Use this illustrative template for a dot or another agent workflow:

Responsibility: prepare the weekly project update.
Inputs: the named task board and accepted project documents.
Schedule: Friday afternoon in my timezone.
Output: completed work, open blockers, sources and owner decisions.
Keep draft, approved and published states separate.
Ask me before sending, publishing, spending or changing access.
If evidence is missing, say what is missing.
Notify me when the update is ready or a decision is required.

FAQ

Is “Astra-level” a guarantee on my task?

No. The comparison comes from OpenAI's evaluations. Test the work you care about.

Is the $500 plan compulsory for all the updates?

No. Each feature has its own eligibility. Use the official plan notice for the exact feature.
